Doubtful Sincerity by CassidyPeterson Doubtful Sincerity by CassidyPeterson

When you +fav everything in my gallery with a particular keyword, but comment on none of them...

When images I uploaded two minutes apart are five pages apart in your faves...

When you +fav everything I upload over an hour, but aren't watching me and haven't even visited my page...

When you add my art to a collection named for quality, and the quality therein fluctuates wildly...

I'm going to wonder if you even looked at what I did.

I don't mind the odd fav-&-run. I'm guilty of it myself. And no, I usually don't respond to the comments I get. That doesn't mean I can't question the motives of somebody who apparently has the time to do keyword searches on my gallery or sit on the front page for two hours, but at the same time doesn't have the time to visit my actual page or comment on anything.

I'll fave a couple of the artist's work and that's it. One time I logged on to DeviantArt and I had a whole bunch of messages, looked at it and this guy faved almost every single of my fanart and I was like "Damn........"

If I fave a bunch of your work, please know it is because I admire and look up to you...

It does get a bit peculiar sometimes, so I can see why receiving it seems odd, but I assure you, if I fave your work, I LOVE it.

And this applies to any other artists who happen to read this, BTW :meow:

Sometimes mass favings are the insidious work of "bots". Which ticks me off, personally. I mean...WHY? Bots don't appreciate art. Why people make those bot accounts is totally beyond my power to comprehend sometimes. *coughtroll?cough*
I used to have a couple of watchers that faved almost everything I submitted. Mixed feelings about that (they were not bots).

They do it to increase their own account stats with minimal effort. With the introduction of deviantArt Points, it's become a common tactic to put up a bot account with a donation pool on their page, so that "wealthy" deviants will thank them for the fave/watch with a couple of Points, that can then be funneled into their real account.

Sounds unscrupulous to ME. If I get faves or points or whatever, I like to feel that I EARNED them. :winner:

Ah, I'm guilty of silent mass faving. I'll find a deviation in a search and love it so much that I want to check out the rest of that artist's gallery folder.

Though faving eveything you've updated all at once like that, does sound a bit eerie.

Just playing devil's advocate here but:

are you seriously complaining about getting favs? there are so many artists who would dearly love to get favs.

as for not visiting your page, deviants who have their settings set to "activities hidden" won't show up as a visitor on your page no matter how many times they visit.

as for keyword fav'g, there are folks out there that are only interested in certain kinds of art and that is what the keyword search is FOR.

anyway .. not trying to cause a drama, just thought I'd speak out as devil's advocate for the folks doing these things that aren't creepy or stalky, just looking for the things they like and maybe you gallery had a lot of what they like and maybe they are on "hidden activities" and aren't showing up ... OH and for the non-watch after mass fav'g ... when I first came to dA, I put a watch on everyone who had more than 5 things that I fav'd ... I wound up with over 700 people I was watching ... and there is NO WAY to stay caught up with actually watching so I had to clean 'em out to make it manageable for me ...

so maybe some of these people are art appreciators rather than artists and just collect things they like to look at ... just saying.

and as well, I've fav'd a lot of things from the group watch this time around, meaning, I fav'd from the Group and didn't visit the artists' pages ... cuz I watch the group for stamps, not for anything else .. *shrugs* so I guess I'm guilty of a lot of things you've put out here.

Hey, no worries about drama, I completely understand where you're coming from =D

No, I'm not complaining about faves :giggle: I love faves, means that people who do like me and actually check other people's faves will see my art more often. I just get a little suspicious when I get upwards of a dozen faves from the same person in a very limited amount of time, or the 57-or-so images between two of mine in their faves happen to be the same 57 in the same order that were between them on the front page.

And I do have a keyword hunter who hits up my gallery silently and actually means it :) I actually confronted her because I was suspicious, and we chatted a bit.

Also I kinda sorta completely forgot about the "activity hidden" option  That would explain that, wouldn't it ^^; Oops!

awwwww *grabs and :hugs:* while ya blush is cute, it's all good, my friend and s'ok, we all do oopsies! :) and well .. maybe we both made a friend out of it, yes? and we both see the other side better than before and i know now to maybe post something on someone's profile page in appreciation if i fav a bunch but dunt watch, cuz i never thought before that it might be a lil creepy ... and yeah, i can see where you're coming from on the favs thing being the same as the front page, that IS suspicious .. anyways, am happy to have chatted a bit on it and it's nice to meet you  ... be safe out there cuz ... well there's bugs and monstahs *shivahs*

Well, the suspicion is gone when said fav-bomber comes to your page requesting you draw a naked picture of the character drawn in the 300 deviations they just :+fav:ed. Then the suspicion is gone, and the creepy factor is in full bloom. :|

You know, it would've been easier if dA did something about the notices when someone mass faves Dx
Something like '[username] has added [number] deviations to their favorites' or whatever.
Would be easier to see who faved what.

Yeah, if there were a way to sort activity stacks by person the way deviation/journal stacks are, that would be awesome. That way gallery raids would be a little more containable, and preferential feedback could be found easier.

Well I admit I do it - but that's because I'm only really on here to garner inspiration for my writing - so if you have a style that inspires me, or you paint things that interest me, I'll usually fave every image I like and then watch you - so I know I've not missed anything that might spark of an idea later on. Had no idea some people don't like it...

If it comes with a watch I take it a little more gracefully, since a watch generally means you are interested in what I do  I do have a few silent watchers who fave without commenting, but it doesn't bother me as much as people who raid my gallery and then disappear again.

In all fairness, time isn't really the only reason a person might commit an act of mass faving. :XD: Some people can never think of anything to say, or might be too shy, or maybe they just enjoy scouring a gallery for the things they like, and adding them to the collection to enjoy.

I went on a mass 9-faving spree. I tried to at least comment on one deviation per artist, but what I faves largely outnumbered what I commented.

That kind of thing can be exasperating, I know. But I'd wager there's nothing really sinister or even insincere about it for the most part. C:

Anyway, now that I've thoroughly bored you with my opinion, I'll move on. :XD:

Hey, it's cool! :) Shyness is one of the reasons I fav-&-run, aside from not wanting to leave the same vague "I'm too dumb to express what I like" comment on the fifteenth image in a row :giggle:

I'm sure many silent mass faves are sincere, but I've also witnessed accounts that were literally less than a week old with thousands of pageviews, their page flooded with "thanks for the fave" comments, who had never left a comment of their own on anything.

True, I imagine some people do it for the pageviews, which is pretty shoddy if you ask me. XP
