"It... I fucking... Are you serious?"

"W'll, yeh... eh'mean, sorda." Sharen squirmed uncomfortably, shrinking away from Gloria's fury. "I'wuzza g'deal, uh?"

"A good deal... A good deal? Five THOUSAND dollars for a fucking... Five grand for a fucking 'ancient civilization' of your very own. A civilization. A society. A dead one. You seriously PAID somebody for the rights to a fucking DEAD. SOCIETY!?"

"Uhn!?" Sharen shook his head vehemently, lifting his head back up to meet Gloria's eyes. "Nuh! Nuh, yaddun, yaddun unner-stan'... Iznuh ly... iznuh ly' tha'."

"Ohhhhhh! Welllllll! It's not LIIIIIKE that! Well please then, Sharen, en-LIGHT-en me. What's it 'like,' then. What's it fucking 'like,' huh?!"

Stung, Sharen ducked his head down again. He shuffled hesitantly to the door, slapping it open, cringing aside as Gloria stormed through it.

There was silence that stretched the short seconds into a painful eternity.

"Gluh, Glurya? Izzit... iz'kay?"

"...yeah, Sharen." The walls were lined with paintings; figures etched into the gaps between the carved frames gestured their obeisance to the figures within. A chandelier hung from the ceiling, fracturing the light onto the diorama that filled the floor. It was not a single scene, but many. Tents and campfires, women nursing their infants or tending the injured. Horses rampaging across the plains, their riders goading each other on as they tore through their enemies' ground troops. The enemy camp, desperately trying to predict their foes' next move as their ranks were decimated. A single stallion storming down a hill, a proud warrior seated on its back. "Yeah, it's okay."
